Bethlehem Attfield is an Amharic to English literary translator and postgraduate researcher. She is currently doing a PhD research; Translating African Language Literature at University of Birmingham. Her first novel size translation, The Lost Spell is published by Henningham Family Press in the UK and is shortlisted for 2022 TA First Translation Prize by Society of Authors. She is a 2023 awardee of the Global Africa Translation Fellowship. As well as contributing to literary journals such as Asymptote and Hypocrite Reader, she also contributes to academic journals such as The Oxford Translation Anthology. She hosts a YouTube podcast Journey to Ethiopia with Story to promote the translation of Amharic literature. To hear in her own words about her work check out the interview below:
